Friday night was the opening preview gala For the Love of Shoes. The For the Love of Shoes showcases shoes donated by 12 Canadian female celebrities from the world of television, music, sports and politics, which are transformed into unique works of art by 14 Canadian designers and artists. Friday night was a well received event packed with people admiring the shoe-creations. The event included a wine tasting, fantastic appetizers and opportunities to talk with Dee and the artists. The exhibit celebrates the feminine and reflects the change in the lives of those with breast cancer. Embedded in the shoes are the artists’ and donors’ personal stories of how breast cancer has affected them. |

People take different paths in life and their footprints can be just as telling as their destination. Shoes have always been a strong symbol in human culture. They are a representation of transition, as we walk from place to place in them. Shoes for a woman are so much more than just ‘footwear’; they are what dreams are made of; they are magical and precious; they protect us. Shoes have played an important part in the myth, legend and folklore of history. Fairytales, including Cinderella, speak about a perfect fit and the delicate nature of a woman, virtue, hope and persistence. Shoes are a reflection of personal strength and inner beauty.
