These Old Windows

Have you ever wondered what those windows have seen? It has been many decades since these windows were lovingly set in place in the freshly laid motor. To bring light in as well as let those passing on the outside a glimpse of the life that this building would house. Would a soon to be famous person grow up in an upstairs apartment? Or would someone sit near these windows and paint a picture of the early Calgary downtown skyline, or wait patiently looking out at the street for their first date to arrive.

Windows of a building are like windows into the soul, we can look deeply inside at the spirit that beats within.

Rare 17th Ave Performance

IMG 6018a Rare 17th Ave Performance

17th Street Muscial Group

In every city there are sections known for the dynamic and changing environment full of eclectic characters and interesting people, where every time you visit it will be a different experience with special moments to be enjoyed. And part of that atmosphere is quite often created by groups of musicians; it is very common to find a single or small group of people playing instruments on the street for donations. What is not so common is to come across a trio that includes a banjo as part of their group. Ryan, Riley and Toni are from Pickering Ontario and are traveling across Canada. If you count group members you will see a 4th member playing the accordion. This group was on the 17th Ave SW in Calgary, and had set up near the residence of of Darcy North, the accordion player, who had just moments before come down with his accordion and started to jam with them.
I have to say I have never heard an accordion played with such energy and life before, Darcy showed that he was a master of the instrument and that he enjoyed to play with energy. It was very fun to watch as Darcy on the accordion and Ryan on the banjo played a rather complicated piece which neither of them had practiced before together. Their styles meshed really well and it showed how talented this group of musicians were.
Riley and Toni were great on the guitars and lead the vocals. I would recommend stopping and watching them if you ever get the chance or perhaps hire them for your event. Contact me if you would like to get their contact information.
Here are some pictures from their performance. Click on the thumbnails to view the pictures.

Metal Tree’s Transformed

The steel tree’s along Steven’s Ave were added to reduce wind along the avenue. I felt that these tree’s could really show off their personality through various stylization techniques.

Random Shots

Over the summer I have taken a bunch of pictures, here is a collection of some I have taken. The first one captures the western feel of Cochrane followed by a magestic windmill that just whispered that it wanted to be captured. The 3rd one I saw a lady in the park taking a moment with her son. Below that is some fun ones I took, the first is me playing with fractals of a bin of tomatos and the last 2 are of the abstract tree’s downtown Calgary.

Canmore Car Show

IMG 4351a 300x195 Canmore Car Show What is is about old cars that evokes such emotion?  Is it thoughts of crusing in our youth, heading to the local icecream shop to get a cone and to check out the cute girls? Perhaps it reminds us of our first car, that baby that we scrimped and saved every penny for. Which we spent hours cleaning and polishing keeping it looking pristine.

Perhaps its because it was the car we took on our first date, the excitement as we pulled up in front of the house to pick her up knowing that it was not dads car. It gave us freedom to spread our wings and see the world around us. For some of us it let us test our beasts against others, to feel the adreneline as we pulled up to a street light and we waited for it to turn green; the anticipation as we waited to let that other car eat our dirt.
Old or new these cars remind us of the passion we have for life and the living we have done, and the living we still have left to do.
